Recently, there has been a lot of talk about how often we really need to shower: and it turns out that skin is better off only washed every few days according to a recent study. It seems the same goes for hair, as washing too frequently strips hair of its natural oils and leaves it feeling dull and dry. These 5 celebrities all opt to wash their manes less often to keep it healthy, some going for a few days and up to a week without washing – instead opting to refresh their locks with dry shampoo to keep it looking its best in between washes.  Here is what they’ve said about opting to wash their hair less frequently.

1.      Amanda Seyfried

Amanda uses dry shampoo between washes instead: “I don’t wash my hair very often, so dry shampoo is my saviour. I love Kevin Murphy’s Fresh Hair, although you have to be careful with dry shampoos that they don’t give you dandruff.”

2.      Cindy Crawford

Cindy prefers to have a blowout and make it last: "I don’t wash my hair as much as I used to, only two or three times a week. I have a blow dryer and I will get blowouts, but it can break easier so I learned how to make it last for three days—I pin it up when I sleep or I will pin it up when I work out."

3.      Ella Eyre

Ella doesn't like to strip away the natural oils: "I don't wash my hair very often. Once a week if I can. Because the more you wash it you end up stripping out the natural oils. What I like to do is just rinse out the products that I've used during the week and then put leave-in conditioner in and let it dry naturally. I like Aveda shampoo, I've used it since I was a swimmer."

4.      Gabrielle Union

Gabrielle avoids over-washing because she thinks it's damaging: "I don’t wash my hair every day. It takes a lot to straighten it, and too much heat really damages it. Ladies with weaves and extensions, here’s my advice: you have to take care of them like they’re your real hair, like they’re growing out of your head."

5.      Sharon Stone

Sharon thinks healthy hair only needs to be washed every few days: "It's important to change your shampoos and conditioners. I keep at least four different brands going in the shower. Right now, I like John Frieda and PureOlogy. I don't wash my hair every day, only every three to four days."
