Basic Savoury Mince

·         Makes 12 cups

·         Prep 10 minutes

·         Cook 55 minutes

·         Cost $1.85 a cup

Ingredient

·         1 tablespoon vegetable or olive oil

·         2 onions, finely chopped

·         3 celery sticks, finely chopped

·         2 cloves garlic, crushed

·         2kg beef mince

·         2 x 400g cans diced tomatoes

·         ¼ cup Worcestershire sauce

·         1 cup tomato paste

·         2 large beef stock cubes

Recipe

1.    Heat oil in a large saucepan over moderate heat. Add onions and celery; cook and stir for 5 minutes or until soft. Add garlic; cook and stir for 1 minute or until fragrant. Add mince; cook, stirring to break up lumps, for 5 minutes or until browned.

2.    Add tomatoes, Worcestershire sauce, tomato paste, crumbled stock cubes and 2 cups water. Bring to the boil. Reduce heat; simmer, stirring occasionally, for 40 minutes or until thick.
