Oscar-winning
actress Lupita Nyong'o has revealed that she designed her own prom dress. The
'12 Years a Slave' beauty says that although looking back now she sees the
design was "ridiculous", she loved the end result at the time and was
amazed by the unique creation. She commented: ''It was
a velvet miniskirt with a matching little top and an iridescent
silver translucent fabric that flowed to the ground. It was kind of ridiculous,
but it was fabulous at the time.''
Speaking
on the subject of finding the perfect dress for big red carpet events, Lupita
says that she works with her stylist for hours on end, trying on different
dresses until they find the right fit. She admits that the process was hard for
her at the beginning but she has enjoyed the experience so far and now knows
what it's like to fall in love with a dress: ''We'd just try, try, try,
try, try, try, try. At first it was very daunting, but I ended up really having
fun with it. It's quite scary when you fall in love with a dress, because it's
nothing to do with your brain. It's like a gut reaction.''
The
actress is the new face of beauty brand Lancome and she says she is very proud
to take on the role because they have a wide vision of what is beautiful and
she really appreciates that: ''It's not about conforming to an
already established idea of what is beautiful, and I like that.''
