Not according to a surveillance mission in an elementary school, when researchers from Baylor College of Medicine compared school lunches with the meals kids brought from home. They found that fare packed by parents was far more likely to contain high-fat/high-sugar items (60% did, versus 18% from the school) and to be missing fruit (only 45% had it, compared with 76% from the lunch ladies) and veggies (13%, versus 29%).
