Sex sells, and the fitness industry has certainly climbed on board. Not only have our workout clothes become sexier, but our workouts are joining the ranks. too, with anything from pole dancing and burlesque to belly dancing and striptease, helping us to get in touch with our sexy side as well as keeping our bodies in top shape.

According to Sarah T. director of Miss Fit pole dancing studios in Sydney, these sorts of workouts offer something different to the repetitiveness that we often find in the gym.

Experts say the physical benefits of these types of sexy workouts can have a flow-on effect in our lives. Women feel stronger and more confident, and have better self-esteem, and if you feel good about yourself and feel sexy, it’s sure to impact your relationship. “I think what happens in the bedroom is very much a product of what’s going on in your head,” says Thompson.

Psychologist Serena Cauchi deals with relationship and sexual issues and says that any type of exercise that you enjoy and that builds your confidence may have a positive impact on your relationship with your partner. It is not uncommon for women (and some men) to have hang-ups about their bodies, whether it is cellulite or skin conditions, and this can affect sexual self-esteem “The more confident you are about your own body, the more relaxed you’re going to be during sex,” says Cauchi, who agrees that these types of classes can be fun, lift our mood and increase our confidence.

As with many types of physical exercise, these types of sexier dance routines require dedication and practice so that you can build your strength and do them properly, avoiding injury. Dancing can also increase coordination, promote better posture and foster overall strength.

No wonder what seems like the whole world is embracing sexycise. In the US, Raunchy Ride is the new spin class. The UK has gone for stiletto workouts. And anecdotal reports of take-up suggest that this fitness industry sub-sector is only just getting started.

Back home, pole dancing is just the tip of the iceberg whether you want to be as sexy as Kylie Minogue or wiggle your booty like Jennifer L get acquainted with your raunchier side with one of these workouts. (And unlike when you took up violin or recorder lessons, you’ll be strongly encouraged to practice at home.)

Belly Dancing

Bollywood actresses and the likes of Elizabeth H. make this look easy, but Rachael M. a dance teacher at Dance Central in Sydney. says all that rhythmic hip wiggling is anything but which is good news for your body.

Melky says belly dancing includes a lot of resistance and develops a rock-solid core. “Back bends mean that you have to hold your core, and then the shimmy will use your quads and your legs.’ says Melky. “Belly dancing is something that you have to build your muscles up for in order to do a routine for a long time.”

Melky says that women come to belly dancing for different reasons, including hens parties. The fringe benefit is the moves Melky gives participants to show their partners at home. If the movements don’t make you feel sexy, the accepted apparel will. The detective at Dance Central is to wear something that allows you to see your belly move so you know you are doing better way to eat in the bedroom?

Pole Dancing

Thompson, who has been pole dancing herself for eight years, says that when most people start out, they don’t have the upper body strength to pull off the moves you see in the movies. But perseverance pays off and progress comes with all sorts of perks - physical, psychological and, urn, recreational.

That’s not to say you need to sex it up Kim Basinger-style. While some people like to do a pole dancing class in heels, you can as easily wear flats (the line gets drawn at Crocs, though). ‘When you’re doing the pole moves, it’s all about creating beautiful lines. It’s designed to be aesthetic and very feminine Pole dancing is also mentally and to see yourself on a pole, reflected in a mirror with this beautiful silhouette, is a really powerful affirmation for a woman”

Thompson says that pole dancing is, fundamentally, resistance training. “You’re carrying your body weight on your arms and pulling yourself upside down, so it becomes very much a core-focused exercise,” The benefits don’t stop there. Thompson says that once you start doing routines to a song, then it gets more aerobic and you feel hot and sweaty afterwards and truly puffed. And the more muscles you have in your body, the higher your metabolic rate which helps both weight loss and weight control.

Pole dancing is also mentally challenging. ‘As you can imagine, going upside down on a pole and just holding on with your legs is really quite scary,” says Thompson. “And as you attempt progressively more difficult moves, you could be upside down hanging on by one knee? Students become these fantastic, toned women who are athletic and flexible and look really great”

Chair Dancing (lap dancing)

Thompson describes lap dancing as a more risqué workout that Is becoming increasingly popular. There is no removal of clothing in her classes; instead, Thompson describes lap dancing as putting together a series of moves that make you look fantastic “Your moves will captivate your audience, which in this case is most likely going to be a guy sitting on a chair.” she says. “You’re wearing heels, learning how to strut, learning how to dance in a way that is incredibly sexy.”

Music may be slow and sensual or erratic and fast, which can mimic interval training, with the slower movements challenging the body as they require control Lap dancing can tighten your abs. firm up your legs and give you a tight, pert butt. What more could you ask for?

Hawaiian Hula

This is a workout using the hips and legs in particular. “It’s about the repetition of the moves,” says Melky “It might seem easy to do one little hip circle or one hip drop, but if you want to try and do it for an hour and put it together in a routine, and do that routine correctly, you’re really working the muscles hard’
