Actress
Jessica Alba has teamed up with jeweller Jennifer Meyer to design two necklaces
for charity. The pieces feature heart-shaped pendants and money raised from
their sale will go towards RED, a charity that works fighting against AIDS,
specifically with HIV positive pregnant women in Africa. Speaking on the
special project, Jessica commented that they chose to design heart necklaces
because it was the "perfect metaphor" and also something that looks
stylish and classic. The actress added that she felt very passionate about the
cause and wanted to do something to help: "We realised that hearts were a
perfect metaphor for this project...it's an easy, elegant design that women can
keep close to their hearts. It makes so much sense for us to collaborate on what
we love, use the power of our platforms, and amplify what we do to help
eradicate one of the worst diseases. Helping women and children has always been
a priority for me."
Jennifer
also commented on working with Jessica on the charity design project,
explaining that she particularly wanted to work with a charity who help mothers
because it is something that "hits home" with both herself and
Jessica too. She also wanted to help by being able to provide a solution for
women put in this situation: "We're both moms so it really hits home.
Imagine that feeling of transferring something to your child. It's the worst
thing in the world, and there are ways to prevent it." The two necklace
designs have been released on Gilt.com for purchase.
