Erotic novel triology ’50 Shades of Grey’ is still
everywhere – the book is currently being adapted in to a film with an all-star
cast including Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson, and now there is another new
surprising spin-off – a lingerie line. The book’s author E.L. James has teamed
up with Swedish clothing label KappAhl to create an official line of underwear
including bras, briefs, masks, stockings and other pieces inspired by the
famous books. Creating delicate lace designs in a simple colour palette – predominantely
in black, grey and red - the resulting designs are timeless and subtly sexy.
Commenting on the idea, James said that it has been exciting to work on the
collection through the various design stages because it was a fresh experience
for her and she is proud of what they have achieved together: “It has been incredibly exciting and
interesting to be involved in the process, from the production of the concept
through the design to the final collection.”
Although the
collection has been criticized for not being as extreme as the book, James says
she had every woman in mind when she was designing the pieces. She wanted to
create something to make women feel sensual: “Our collection was inspired by
all of the million female readers of the Fifty Shades of Grey trilogy,
what we imagine they would wear and feel sensual in. We did not for a minute
think about domination/leather aesthetic.”
The new ’50 Shades of Grey’ lingerie collection has already
hit stores.
