spanning New York to Paris, some moment burn bright in the memory. Here,
highlights from autumn/winter 2012.
With respect
It was mixed emotions at Yves Saint Laurent in Paris as
Stefano Pilati revealed his final collection for the label. In a poignant
moment, Nicolas Ghesquière and W’s Marie-Amélie Sauvé arrived together
in a show of support.
Crystal palace
From the spectacular quartz-like shards shooting from the
floor of Paris’s Grand Palais to the delicate crystal-encrusted eyebrows by
Lesage, Chanel’s Karl Lagerfeld was out to make an impact.
Winter wonderland
One look at Rachel Feinstein’s surreal setting for Marc Jacobs’s
wildly imaginative show in New York and you’d be forgiven for thinking Dr Seuss
was calling the shots.
A grand affair
From a hub for revolution and political intrigue to a
modern-day setting for presentations by the likes of Dries Van Noten, the Hotel
de Ville on Paris’ Rue de Rivoli was the feted location.
Sweater girl
After a notable runway absence, Karlie Kloss emerged in
Paris, proving no-one can work a sweater quite the same.
All aboard
Period drama and train buffs alike were in raptures at Louis
Vuitton, where a faux railway station set the scene for decadent embellishment
and colour.
Don’t cry for me
There wasn’t a dry eye as Raf Simons redefined elegance in
his swan song for Jil Sander.
Strength in numbers
With her lethal beauty and powerful stride, top model Joan
Smalls proved to be a force on the runway, walking close to 40 shows for some
of fashion’s biggest names.
Painted ladies
It was eyes wide open in most beauty chairs as vivid shadows
were swept across lids with colourful abandon.
The front line
There was many a woman hoping to be headhunted by Balenciaga
Inc. after futuristically dressed ushers saw them into a glass skyscraper to
take in a corporate vision of winter dressing. Sign us up!
