Already
working as editor of 'Love' magazine and as a stylist, Katie Grand can also add
designer to her resumé after designing for Hogan for three seasons. Packing her
collections full of quirky finished touches, rainbow colours and a sense of
playfulness, Katie admits that when she was offered the job she was at first
afraid of designing clothes because she felt it was outside of her comfort
zone. She adds that she was more used to designing accessories at the time but
now she feels anything is possible: "It was daunting to even think about
doing clothes, I’m more comfortable with accessories because I worked closely
on shoes at Louis Vuitton, but clothes... I just didn’t feel confident."
She admits that now she is happy to design clothes again if the right project
comes along: "Yes, I think so. But it would have to be the right
project and my collaborators will have to be really tolerant and patient with
my endless corrections!"
Her
new collection features statement polka dot pieces and Katie says she would
advise people to mix up looks: "I’m quite a random dresser – I rarely
wear a “look” head to toe. I’d just slot pieces from this collection into my
normal wardrobe. I also love the overnight bag, it’s really light. I stole one
– great for going away."
Speaking
on enlisting an all-star cast for the campaign including British model Georgia
May Jagger and more, Katie just says she's lucky to have good friends:
"With Hogan, it was always important for the girls to have a big
personality, so I could be nervous behind them, I think I hid pretty well
behind my friends!”
