A part of the London 2012 Olympic
Games Closing Ceremony, we was asked to commission this set of pictures –
working with star British designers to create unique pieces for fashion’s
golden girls (and guy)
Kate Moss wears
Alexander McQueen
Sarah Burton’s sequin-encrusted, bias-cut
grown with its seductively plunging neckline gently skims every curve before
spilling out into a pool at the feet. What’s more, its slippery silk lining
means it feels as good as it looks. Tailor-made for Kate Moss – who says her
sporty credentials extend to yoga and walking her dog in the Cotswolds – it’s
perfectly suited to the supermodel’s urban spin on glamour. How will Moss
celebrate the Olympic Games? “By cheering on Team GB.” Leather wedges,
Alexander McQueen.

Stella Tennant wears
Christopher Kane
“As soon as I knew I was dressing Stella, I
thought of a trouser suit. It just felt right,” says fellow Scot Christopher
Kane, who constructed this slouchy suit using gold and aluminium chainmail
together with Swarovski-crystal mesh, jigsaw-cut and linked together. “A really
long process!” he adds, “but totally worth it. She looks like a beautiful
Adonis, in a column of crystal and gold.” Leather boots, Christian Louboutin
Lily Cole wears
Erdem
Erdem’s ultra-feminine dress is a feat of
workmanship comprised of brocade weaved in Italy and lace made in France,
hand-embroidered in London. But for Erdem, it was the color that was hardest to
fathom. “I’ve never made anything in gold, nor have lever explored the idea of
metallic, so this project has been an interesting challenge,” admits the
exacting designer, who also wanted the dress to be romantic and typically
English. Erdem, who runs and swims, managed to score a seat at the Olympic
Games: “I applied for tickets for diving, water polo, athletics and gymnastics
– and I ended up with Graeco-Roman wrestling. So that’s where I’ll be.”
Platform shoes, Charlotte Olympia
Karen Elson wears
Burberry
Christopher Bailey’s spaghetti-strap gown
in golden lace takes the thigh-high split to racy, record-breaking heights –
all the better to display Karen Elson’s primed pins. “I used to be pretty good
at hurdles when I was a kid – my long legs helped.” Where will she watch the
Olympic Games? “I’m probably going to throw a ton of parties at my house in
Nashville and become very patriotic – I’m so proud to be British.”
