Launching
on June 5th online, singer Lorde's first collaboration collection for MAC
Cosmetics is about to become available. Opening up on the process of creating
the products (there will only be two items - a purple lipstick and jet black
liquid eyeliner), Lorde says that she was very focused on getting both items
perfect. She explains that she in particular wanted to get the exact right
finish for the lip shade: "The finish [of the lipstick] was important to
me. I wanted people to be able to use it as a lipstick or press it on as a
stain."
Lorde
says she was very involved in the process and doesn't like anything to have her
name unless she is fully committed to the creative side: "I’m very much
involved — I’m designing the sets for my shows, I’m designing the lighting for
my shows, I’m designing my merchandise. Basically, everything to do with me,
I’m doing. I would get bored just doing one thing. I have a very clear idea of
what everything needs to look like, to sound like. And I’m really bad at
delegating."
Explaining
why she opted to only create two simple items, she says that having such a
small focus made them more special, although she'd like to do more: "I
kept it short because I wanted to make the two products more important to me,
that would be a good addition to anyone’s makeup bag. But I’d like to do more
lipsticks." She adds that she has always been a big fan of the
cosmetics company: "I have loved MAC Cosmetics since I was a little
kid, I remember saving up to buy my very first MAC lipstick [Snob] at 14, and it
was used by about 20 of my friends!"
