Ready to make the cut? Find your
perfect fringe (and keep it looking fabulous) with these pro tips.
Blunt
Talk about making a statement without
saying a word! Whether snipped in a sharp line from temple to temple or tapered
on the sides, heavy, eyebrow-grazing bangs equal instant drama, says New York
City hairstylist Creighton Bowman, who created the face framing looks on these
pages. Best suited for women with thick strands, this style also requires a lot
of self-confidence. “Blunt-cut bangs are attention-grabbing,” says Bowman. So,
if you don’t like being In the spotlight, opt for a softer version.

Side wept
Meet the ideal starter fringe: A long,
side- parted style is sexy and universally flattering. Cut on a slight angle,
the bangs can brush the brow line, as seen here, or extend even longer, so they
can be pushed to one side. And forget frequent trims their versatility makes
them one of the lowest-maintenance cuts around. “In fact,” says Bowman, “as
they grow and fall over one eye, they look even prettier.”
Piecey
Not ready to take the plunge of full on
fringe? If you’re really shear shy, try a wispy style. Snipping a few eye-level
pieces will soften your features without adding too much edge. The look is
especially great if you frequently wear updos but feel naked with a bare
forehead.

Choppy
Removing bulk from thick fringe with
special texturizing shears imparts extra movement and a cool, rough quality. A
better option than blunt for women with very fine hair, choppy is also a good
stepping stone if you’re not quite ready to go for the full Zooey Deschanel
look. Says Bowman: “Choppy bangs are what you should ask for if you’re seeking
a bold style that still feels relaxed and easy.”
