Take four looks, mix up a couple or do each
one alone – make-up has never been this effortless. Right now, there’s a return
to brows, lips, liner and all things sculptural: make-up that naturally defines
you. Think of these key make-up looks as essentials – experiment and wear them
with ease. So here you are… step-by-step, we’ve made it easy, so you can have
fun with a modern take on the new you.
THE TRICK
It’s bold, it’s deep, but it’s so wearable… like you’ve bitten a plum. And
that’s the trick – it needs to be blended into your lips so it’s more like a
stain and less “done”. We’re picked our fave shades to save you the effort.
PRO TIP “I
always start with the lips before applying foundation when I’m doing a bold
mouth,” says Dick Page, artistic director at Shiseido. “It helps determine just
how much you need and when, and if it suits you.”
NEED TO KNOW A thin layer of foundation over the lips will help to fill in
fine lines around the mouth.
w&h says
Make skin flawlessly fresh but not heavily made up. Just two coats of mascara
will make sure that the roots of your lashes are dense and dark so that your
lash line is defined but without the need for liner.
1. SHAPE

With a matching pencil liner, add staying
power to your lipstick by lining your lips and then “feather fill” them in with
the pencil to avoid a “dark ring” left later in the day. Using Lancôme Le
Contour Pro in Rouge Ebene, $27, the colour is so perfect, you could
wear this alone for a long-lasting matte lip.

2. FILL
Fill
Apply a plum red with a brush, such as Dolce
& Gabbana Retractable Lip Brush, $33.9, to blend the pencil and
lipstick so that both wear well together for longer. Take the colour to the
edge of your lipline, but not over, otherwise the colour will bleed into any
fine lines. The pencil liner will help avoid this.

3. TIDY
Tidy
Finish by pressing your lips on a tissue to
seal the colour. Use a cotton bud to soften the lip line so it doesn’t look too
obvious. If it’s too matte, pop on a bit of gloss, such as Clinique Chubby
Stick in Voluptuous Violet, $24, or Estée Lauder Pure Color Lip Gloss in
Chaotic Currant, $25.5.
