In
recent weeks, two actresses have come forward to endorse 'oil pulling', a
natural way to boost oral health. Gwyneth Paltrow and Shailene Woodley have
both gushed about the beauty trend which is currently rising in popularity,
saying they believe it's a great way to whiten teeth, kill oral toxins and even
improve skin. So, what exactly is 'oil pulling' and why is it said to be
beneficial? The process is simple - you take a tablespoon of natural oil
(coconut oil is the most popular but other oils work just as well) and swish it
gently around your mouth for about 20 minutes, before spitting it out. The oil
absorbs bacteria, mucous and other toxins, so once you spit the contents of
your mouth out, you'll feel fresh and clean. Paltrow commented on the process,
saying she has just begun 'oil pulling' but is very interested in
it: "I just started 'oil pulling,' which is when you swish coconut
oil around (in your mouth) for 20 minutes, and it's supposed to be great for
oral health and making your teeth white. It's supposed to clear up your skin,
as well."
Shailene
also had positive things to say about the process, saying that it can improve
teeth: ''I love a natural way to heal. You can do something called 'oil
pulling' where you swish coconut or sesame oil in your mouth when you wake up
and spit it out. It's amazing! It really makes your teeth whiter, because the
plaque on your teeth is not water soluble, it's fat-soluble.''
