Can’t afford a facial? Try a FACE MASK to
counteract your specific skin concerns
Combination to oily skin
Product: Garnier
Pure 3 in 1 Wash-Scrub-Mask, R84.95
How it worked:
This product is a great budget-buy as it can be used as a cleanser, a srcub to
exfoliate the skin or as a mask. When used as a mask, apply it to the skin and
then allow the fluid to dry for three minutes before rinsing it off.
The result: My
skin felt deeply cleansed after rinsing the mask off. My pores were less
visible and shine was reduced. My skin was also softer to the touch. I’ll
definitely use it again.

Combination to dry skin
Product: Skin
Logic Caviar + CoQ10 Silk Cellulose Mask Sheet, R33.99 available at Clicks.
How it worked: The
mask was very simple to use – once unfolded, the cloth mask is easy to place on
your face. I expected it to be uncomfortable, but was pleasantly surprised.
The result: After
20 minutes my skin’s dryness had completely disappeared and its elasticity
fully restored. The surface of my skin felt slightly sticky immediately after
removing the mask, but returned to normal after cleansing. A week after
applying the mask my skin still felt moisturised and supple.
Normal skin
Product: Cettuá
After night Fever Soothing Essence Mask, R49.99, available at Clicks.
How it worked: The
product is a cloth mask that you place on your face and leave for 20 to 30
minutes after cleansing and toning. After removing the mask, gently rub in any
remaining serum. It is very simple to use and there are two masks in a pack.
The result: The
mask was cold at first and i could feel some tingling as it worked on my skin.
Immediately after my first use, my skin was a bit sticky to the touch, but felr
as if it had been given a chance to breathe. By the next day my skin felt
smoother, but I noticed very slight pimples on my cheeks. I’ve experienced this
the day after facials before and, as they had before, these very small pimples
were gone within a day or two. A mask like this one is ideal for giving your
face a quick DIY minifacial that refreshes the skin. If there is any tightness
after removing the mask, apply your usual moisturiser once the excess serum has
dried.
Normal to dehydrated skin
Product: Lancôme
Hydra Intense Hydrating Gel Mask, R385
How tie worked:
After exfoliating and cleansing your skin, apply a thick laver of the gel mask
over your face and leave for five minutes. Thereafter any surplus producr
should be removed using a tissue or a face towel. Do not rinse the product off,
as the intetntion is that the mask continues to hydrate your skin for at least
eight hours after its initial application.
The first time I used the gel, it felr
slightly strange as I was very much aware that it was still on my skin and my
initial reaction was wash it off. However, after moisturising and putting on my
make-up as usual, I forgot about the gel and could no longer feel it on my
skin.
The result: My
skin felt incredibly soft after the first application. However, for the second
and subsequent applications I decided it suited me better to apply the gel at
night – when the skin is working its hardest and repairing itself. This also
meant that I wasn’t applying any make-up over the gel, which initially made me
feel that I was taking away from the mask’s true potential.
