Reality
star Kylie Jenner surprised at the 2014 Billboard Music Awards when she debuted
a daring new blue haircut, and now her hairstylist Daniel Moon has opened up on
how they achieved the attention-grabbing look. Daniel reveals that the
hairstyle was inspired by a punk look and he thinks it's a big beauty trend
that many people are picking up on. He adds that Kylie was interested in dying
her locks blue or green, so they opted to add several shades of blue to make it
more interesting: ''Punk is the new pretty and pretty is the new punk. She
made my job easy. She came in asking for blue or green hair, and was very
aware of the effect the chosen shade would have on her skin tone, and how it
would fade. I recommended using more than one color to add dimension and she
agreed.''
Daniel
says that Nicole Richie is one of the main celebrities making bright hair so
popular as she currently has purple hair: ''Ever since Nicole
Richie set the bar as a lavender princess, I would say this is only the
beginning of more colorful hairstyles.''
He
adds that many people are turning to the punk movement to get both fashion and
beauty inspiration because it's about having a bold attitude and standing out:
''Punk is an attitude that rebels against traditional values. That's exactly
what is happening here. Young starlets are adopting this attitude and designers
are supporting them. Designer Vivienne Westwood has made a career of
this. Kylie Jenner has this attitude and is confident in her style.
Youth culture has always influenced fashion. This is what is happening now.''
