Who knew turning
back the clock could be so easy? Here, we prove that slipping into a new blush routine or deciding on a new
hair color, or style, is all it takes to look years younger.
1. Groom your brows
Creating your ultimate brow shape has the
power to transform your face. Just ask brow expert Lien Davies, who’s written
an entire eBook on the subject. Her anti-ageing brow tricks? Never was, always
pluck, opt for soft arches over anything too rounded and keep your brows on the
thicker side – as thin brows are ageing.

2. Moisture every day
If there’s one beauty lesion that needs
drilling, it’s that hydration is one of the most effective forces against
anti-ageing. As the seasons change, switch your moisturizer formula to balance
your skin’s needs with environmental factors.
The general rule: Use a thicker, heavier
moisturizer in winter and a light option in summer. That said, if your skin is
dry and dehydrated, use the heavy hitters all year round.

3. Lengthen your lashes
You’ve been coating your lashes in mascara,
only to find that after a few hours they are limp. Why is that? As you age,
your lashes lose some of their strength, making heavier formulas hard to hold
up. Try a volumising and lengthening mascara that coats each lash individually,
so they look longer but not leaner.
Bonus tip: Take your eye make-up off every
night. Leaving mascara on overnight causes your lashes to stiffen and
potentially break.
4. Contour, but not like you did in the ‘80s
If you’re still applying four coats of
blush to the hollows of your cheeks, it might be time to reconsider your
technique. Soft shades of pink and peach are great shade options, but don’t be
too heavy-handed when applying the color. If you suffer from under-eye bags,
distract onlookers by sweeping your blush along the upper ridge of your
cheekbones and taking the color out towards your temples – this raised pop of
color instantly lifts your face.

5. Learn to love yellow-based foundation
Remember the advice to choose a foundation
that complements your skin tone? It’s time to forget it! Yellow-based
foundation warms up your complexion, making skin look radiant and more
youthful. Powder formulas can be ageing so instead, opt for a light coat of
translucent powder.

6. Go light on the lip liner
While wild reds and poppy peaches may be
lipstick shades of choice right now, avoid the darker lip liner. Opt for light
nude or rose options and always pick a hue lighter than your natural lip color.
Gucci Westman, Revlon global artistic director, suggests using your liner
softly to fill in any faded areas along your lip line and avoid hard, sharp
lines at all costs.
7. Chop and change
“As your reach your thirties, forties and
beyond, your skin color starts to change and it is important to keep your hair
in sync with those changes,” says Redken hair director Richard Kavanagh. His
remedy: Choose the right hair color for your skin tone and you’ll instantly
appear younger. Not ready for a bold new shade? Try a sweeping fringe. “A
sweeping fringe takes years off your face. If should sit around the cheekbone
and sweep across the forehead,” says Gallo Hair salon director, Phillip Gallo.
8. Heal your hands
You use them for just about everything, but
when it comes to skincare, your hands are often overlooked. Don’t let your
fingers give away your age, instead hydrate and exfoliate the skin before
trimming nails to a neat length. In terms of color, stick to youthful shades of
true orange-based red, soft pink and nude.
