Zac
Posen has praised designer Tom Ford for helping him get started in fashion when
he had no one else to give him a helping hand and was struggling to launch
himself. Zac reveals that Tom took a chance on him when he was launching his
label in 2001 and offered him financial support to get started, even without
attending a meeting. Zac says that he was able to launch his first proper show
with Ford's support and had only just managed to scrape together enough savings
to start up the first collection from a previous job he had held where he
learned about business.
Zac
praises Ford for starting his entire career because of his generosity at the
time: ''I wouldn't be in business if it wasn't for Tom Ford. He took
a risk, and wrote a cheque, and paid for my second fashion show without meeting
me. That was our first show with real PR. I started the company
with money saved up from lemonade sales on Spring Street. That's
how you learn profit and margins, advertising, everything.''
Zac
admits he often isn't down to earth and when he was younger he was regrettably
quite obnoxious to others - something which has been gossiped about in the past
by previous people he has worked with. Posen says that if he ever met his
younger self, he wouldn't be too impressed and would be embarrassed by his own
behavior: ''I would have strangled myself too. I was just too young and
too in-your-face and not humble.''
