British-based
designer Jonathan Saunders, who recently debuted his Autumn/Winter 2014
collection at London Fashion Week, has said that he enjoys the stress of
designing fashion collections. He says he doesn't want people to feel sorry for
him when he works long days because he really enjoys his job: ''I love my
job. Otherwise I wouldn't stay here until midnight every day the whole of my
life. I'm not going to get out the violins. It's not that I have to. It's
that I want to. I love the stress of it, trying to do something
that maybe doesn't work out at first and then fixing it.''
Speaking
on his Autumn/Winter 2014 collection, Jonathan reveals that he wanted it to
have a "meaner" vibe throughout and wanted to represent another kind
of beauty: ''It's much meaner this time. I like mean. It's about
seeing the beauty in something that isn't obviously precious, which is a funny
thing to play with when you're working with luxury. It's a bit like, what is
expensive? What does expensive look like? To ask that question is my job, I
suppose.''
The
designer adds that he believes catwalk shows are still incredibly important to
designers because it gives them a proper platform to introduce their designs in
a way that completes their personal vision for their collection. He comments
that it's all about communicating the idea as clearly as possible: ''I
love shows. They're the best way to communicate your idea clearly. And when
you're trying to do something creative, that's really important.''
