Designer
Raf Simons has spoken on designing collections for Dior. Now with several
seasons as the head designer under his belt, Simons has settled in to his
stride and continues to produce awe-inspiring pieces for the luxurious Parisian
label. Commenting on his main objectives when he approaches fashion design,
Simons says he hopes he can make women feel free and he would like it if they
could also bring their own sense of style to what he creates: "I
would like women to feel a sense of freedom, to ultimately wear it the way she
would like to and incorporate it with her own style. I want people to care
about the clothes that they are wearing and for them to be able to live their
lives in them."
Simons
also says he hopes women can create their own emotional bond with his garments
because he often has an emotional reaction to what he designs and he thinks
that needs to exist from the beginning of the creation process. He wishes women
will love his designs so much that they'll feel a "special bond" to
his pieces: "If you don't care about your clothes then nobody else
will! So that emotion exists from the very beginning. This is an emotion in
couture like nothing else, because of the special bond between the people who
make the clothes and the people who wear them."
He
reveals that a lot of love and dedication goes in to Dior designs, especially
for the Haute Couture collections: "One person will work on a couture
dress throughout the entire process; they will fit and dress a girl for the
show or the client who buys it. It is the emotion of a human relationship that
you can feel in our clothing."
