Design
duo behind British label Peter Pilotto, Peter Pilotto and Christopher de Vos,
have spoken on how they work so well together when they're approaching the
design process. Peter comments that they both try to remain quite
"neutral" about each other’s work and they do their best not to
stress each other out, even with big deadlines approaching. The designer
commented: "We learned at the beginning to not stress the other out
about things, to wait for the morning after. As we've always done this, we
can't imagine working in another way. We always manage to keep a neutral eye on
what the other is doing, which is especially important with textiles. It's
really important to be able to see it from close and far away at the same
time."
The
label's designs have always been very print-focused, but Christopher comments
that they're hoping to expand their look and have been searching for new ways
to add texture and colour to their statement looks. He reveals that they've
even created their own tweed and are expanding to include various types of
embroidery and beading techniques, so they no longer just rely on printing to
make their looks stand out. He explained: "We're exploring beyond print.
So we've looked at where we can express what we do colour-wise with different
techniques. There's a lot of embroidery, beading, knitwear. We've been
developing our own tweeds to use that texture element to create the same
graphic aspect of a print."
