Coconut
oil is quickly becoming popular not only as a low fat alternative to regular
oil for cooking, but also in beauty products. Not only does it smell gorgeous,
but coconut oil has many properties that help hair, teeth and skin look their
best. In its pure form, it can be applied to the face as a moisture-boosting
hydrating product. It can also be massaged in to dry hair, left on as a hair
mask to give silky smooth locks. People have also been promoting the
'oil-pulling' method which helps teeth - simply swish the oil around your mouth
for 20 minutes before spitting it out.
There
are now many beauty products that use coconut oil as a key ingredient,
including Nars' Monoi Body Glow, an oil-rich mixture that creates supple and
fresh skin when applied: "Monoi Body Glow II creates glowing, healthy
looking, and naturally fragrant skin. Native to the South Pacific and France,
Monoi de Tahiti oil is the result of macerating the native tiare flower
(Tahitian gardenia) in refined coconut extract for at least ten days, slowly
infusing the oil with nutrients as well as a delicate, natural fragrance."
Also
popular is Palmers Coconut Oil Formula Shampoo which conditions as it washes
through hair: "Palmer's Coconut Oil Formula replenishes moisture that can
be lost throughout the day, helping to restore your hair's healthy shine. The
shampoo is so gentle it can be used on even fine, limp hair every day. The
natural blend of Vitamin E and coconut oil helps to enhance your hair's health,
while the included keratin helps to strengthen hair."
The
Body Shop have created a soothing and hydrating mist which can be used all over
the body: "Our Coconut takes on a fresh new form. Spray this light
scented body mist all over your body for a gentle burst of tropical coconut.
It’s irresistible."
