Do not be so surprised when seeing that babies’ skin has strange color.

After 9 months and 10 days of pregnancy, you will burn into tears due to happiness when holding your little babies. Seeing that their blood-red skin with two tightly closed eyes, you will feel to love them so much and your sweet happiness will be pervading. However, prepare your psychology since sometimes the narrow life in mom’s belly leaves some marks on a newborn baby, which may cause parents to jump when seeing.

Equip yourselves with knowledge of newborn baby’s development in every month so as to care for and bring up your babies better.

Skin

Do not be so surprised when seeing that babies’ skin has strange color, unlike your imagination when seeing on TV or magazine. Some babies may have blushing skin, some have reddish skin, and some may have some spots on skin. Most babies’ skin is wrinkle and has some crust. A few hours after being born, babies’ hands and feet may be rather pale due to their imperfect circulatory system.

Some other strange marks on babies’ skin that can draw your attention are small spots (whitehead) around their noses and eyes and fuzz covering their necks, shoulders, and backs.

Head and face

Babies get rid of the narrow life in their moms’ bellies by a very tight way, so their heads may be not round or be a bit swollen. Their faces are also influenced, eyes and eyelids may be swollen, and noses and ears may be contorted, which look quite funny. If they have little hair, you can also see their sinciputs.

Hair and eyes

Many newborn babies are born with thick hair, but it will be replaced after around 3 to 4 months, and the new hair color then will be different to that at newborn time.

Babies’ eye color also changes within the first year. Regularly, European babies have blue eyes while Asian or African babies have black or brown color eyes. You can predict their permanent eye color when they are 6 months old.

Umbilicus

Right after babies are born, the doctor cut the umbilical cord that is 1 inch distant from their bellies. Umbilicus is a good environment for bacteria to penetrate into a baby’s body and harm its health. Therefore, you have to specially pay attention to cleaning umbilicus correctly and cleanly for babies.

Sound and image

Many studies have shown that since living in moms’ bellies, babies have been able to hear the sound of their moms and respond to it. So, when born, babies’ attention is paid to places where there is their moms’ voice.

On a few days after born, babies’ eyes are almost closed all the time, but they will be opened longer soon. Especially, babies are easy to be attracted by contrary images or round cubes. In the first month of life, they can see objects from about 8 to 10 inches away.

Reflex

Since being born, babies have had instincts such as tracing for moms’ breasts. Or, if jumped, they will stretch hands widely. Especially, when you put something into their hands, they will hold it tightly. If doubting, you can try letting them hold your fingers.

Nappy

When changing nappy for babies, take advantage of this opportunity to strengthen maternal/paternal live by talking to them or sing a song so that they can feel more relaxed.

Cry

Despite reading many parenting books or no matter how you raised your spirit, babies’ crying also makes you stressed. Cry is a means for babies to show their discomfort to parents. Therefore, when your baby cries, you have to pay attention and wonder:

o   What was the last time you suckled your baby?

o   Is it time to change its nappy? Is the nappy wet?

o   Is it flatulent and does it need your help?

o   Is it time for it to sleep?

o   Is there too much noise around it?
