The power of parental education
Steve Jobs’s foster father taught him the basic
knowledge of electronics when he was young, and surely he did not aware talent
at that time. This is reasonable because intelligence includes 49% of
knowledge, 51% of practice. There are also environmental factors (such as the
impact of parents). However, many parents expect their children become geniuses
when children are in the womb, you expect them to be a star or a talent businessman,
and maybe it is not something the children want, basically you have to
stimulate the learning capacity of children.
Here are some tips to enhance learning
pleasure for children that you can apply:
Practice
to answer
Let ask open questions, such as “What will
happen if we stop to buy ice cream on the way to the beach”. The question
format will make your children think and speak their own opinions. Do not worry
that the kids are too young to understand the question, instead, do not
hesitate to use complex words, they cannot fully understand the words, but they
can imagine the word meaning which is used several times in context. John
Shotter, a father in Seaford, usually uses this with his 2-year-old son, “When
we talked about “tool”, I showed him the square ruler, drill, ruler, hammer…”.
The result is quite satisfactory, son of John can name the tools, materials and
fabrics, he also knows how to measure, use screwdrivers and dye fabrics.

Practice
to read books
Many studies have demonstrated the
effectiveness of alternate reading for children, especially in schools. Reading
helps the brain link information better and creates common knowledge base about
the world. Reading is the source of learning, helping children learn and apply
knowledge in all areas, including math and science. To stimulate children,
parents should set an example; when looking at parents with reading passion,
children will imitate. In addition, you can offer them to read with you in the
warm blanket, put the books on the shelves or places that children often come.
You can also share the book content with your children and request them to
share the story back to you. It’s not just the normal communication process but
also helps children learn vocabulary and know how to make sentences.

Praise
small achievements
Our culture often focuses on the appearance
and forgets the inner values. A mother shared, “Both my boys playes football
and always go home smelly. However, when looking at the trophy and prize ribbon
in their room, I feel I own the future football talents”.
In addition, experts believe that children who
are not encouraged will be dependent and depressed when they do not achieve the
purpose or success on school. According to Stephanie Rosales, education
specialist: “The children who are rewarded or encouraged on problem solving
often become more active than intelligent children, while intelligent children become
upset when things do not come to them easily. Therefore, instead of praising
children too much (such as “You are a star”), let give them an encourage (such
as “Mom is very proud because you can solve this problem”, and if you want to
challenge the kids, give them most accurate encouragement (as “You are going to
find out the answer, tryyour best”).
Stimulate
children’s curiosity
The children who are going to go to school
are very curious about everything, but when they grow up a bit, they will lose
this habit, you can improve this by making them more exciting with the problems
that they care, including stories about Pokemo through two-way conversation.
Then, they'll ask you back and expect an answer, at this time, let share them
the things that you interest, such as visiting the museum to watch the show and
tell about your favourites. Rich Braun, a father in East Islip, he is usually busy
working on weekends, so, to share time with his son, he let his children leave for
school and take them to the museum. The boy’s teachers always agree and right the
next day, he wil tell the entire trip for the class, which makes him an expert
of the class, then, he becomes confident and eager to learn more.
The realistic
trip
You can spend a day to help your child
review the knowledge at school: drive to a windmill, instead of saying “This is
the windmill”, ask your child “In your opinion, what is it used for?” This will
help your child practice observation skills in the classroom. A trip to store
will help your child learn vocabularies and learn how to charge the money: tell
a two-year-old baby the name of fruits you will buy, ask 3-year-old baby to
find 4 boxes of beans, tell 5-year-old baby to write the names of cereals that they
usually buy, the older babies can compare the prices and weights of goods.
Sarah Brown, a kindergarten teacher said, when she told her two-year-old
students paint the apples, bananas and carrots, later, when they were 4 years
old, she realizes they have better writing skills than other children at the
same age.
Whether your child is smart or normal, the
best thing you can help him/her is helping him/her in living experiences,
gradually help them explore themselves, then, find the innate ability. In
short, as parents, what do you want for your child? Be happy? Be confident? To
be loved? Obviously, genius factor is not the first answer, right? Therefore,
your goal is raising your children so that they become the best person they
can, not the pressure on the intelligence. I believe you will find the right
solution for your child.
