Rising
actress Lily Collins has opened up on developing her love for fashion. She says
that she has always been interested in designers and their work, adding that
her mother was very open about allowing her to express herself through what she
wears. She says that her mother also taught her about vintage pieces: ''I
grew up loving fashion and admiring designers because my mum showed
my different styles and always allowed me to express myself via my
clothes - no matter how crazy or ridiculous they were. Her influence
taught me to have a huge amount of respect for vintage clothing, but also
modern designs.''
Lily
reveals that she remembers the exact moment she first fell in love with a
clothing item - while on a trip to Ireland at a young age, she found a pink
furry coat and refused to take it off because she was so in love with
it: ''I remember going into a shop with my mum in Dublin when I was about
four or five and seeing an amazing pink fur coat with a hood. I thought it
was the most incredible thing in the world and when we bought it, they had to
put me on the counter to scan the price tag because I refused to take it off.''
When
she's hitting the red carpet, Lily says she doesn't like to play it safe but
prefers not to be overpowered by what she wears either: ''For me, red
carpet fashion is taking risks while staying true to your own
aesthetic. Wearing the clothes, not letting the clothes wear you.''
