American designer Ralph Lauren has opened up on the process of tailoring, stating that a very long time ago he began to admire how women look while dressed quite androgynous in men's tailored clothing. He also noticed that when he first branched out in to menswear design, many women would request that he make the same pieces for them, so he now likes to have a customized design process for both men and women to suit both genders:  ''Long before I had experienced the artistry of Saville Row, I'd loved the way women looked in men's clothes. When I started to make menswear, women were always asking, 'Can you make it for me?' Today I offer both men and women made-to-measure that's inspired by that custom-made experience.''

Ralph says that although he may be famous for his strong American roots, he admits that much of his work is actually inspired by British style, and he has always sourced inspiration from England's rich heritage. He says that he also believes British fashion is unique and always charming:  ''When I opened my first store outside the US, in London in 1981, I felt such a warm welcome here. I still do. My spring 2014 collection has a nod to the bold spirit and playful London in the late 60s. I've always loved the heritage of England. My collection for Fall 2012 was about modern glamour inspired by refined elegance. I've always loved Britain - the character and charm of Fair Isle sweaters and beautiful tweeds. But most of all I'm drawn to the people.''
