Sarah
Jessica Parker was recently harshly critiqued by fashion blogs for layering up
a pair of stirrup tights with pumps - but it looks like we might have only
ourselves to blame. The actress, who recently launched her new SJP shoe
collection, commented that she got the idea (and many of her other fashion
ideas) from everyday street style that she observed. She admits that she first
saw another woman wearing stirrup tights and it lead to her own
idea: ''It's been so cold in New York that bare legs seemed almost
undoable... So I started wearing tights, then I saw a woman in Seattle wearing
stirrups with a pump and thought, 'Maybe I'll start wearing them with a strap
shoe.' I am often inspired by women on the street whose names I'll
never know.'' Laughing off her critics, the actress admits she doesn't see
the look becoming a trend others will copy: "I don't know if
they'll catch on."
On
her newly launched shoe collection, Sarah Jessica says that she was inspired by
her 'Sex and the City' character Carrie Bradshaw's overwhelming desire to own
designer footwear which she believes rubbed off on her over the years and
decided to contact George
Malkemus, CEO of Manolo Blahnik, to ask him to collaborate together on the
idea: 'Having played this character for so long who had such a love of
shoes—and, you know, some might say a reckless desire to have them—I just
thought, “This is what I’d really like to do now.” I called him and said, “I
have this crazy idea…”’
