After waiting for months, your baby is finally born and
wrapped in your arms. How wonderful! It’s a new life, new challenges, and if
you’ve been a mother for the first time, there’re many concerns and
uncertainties. Though you think you have been well-prepared before the birth,
everything can be a little different when your baby is born.
Ask your friends and family for help
Make a list and choose reliable friends or relatives to help
you in the first days. In the first month, you’ll sleep when possible to feed
the baby when he is hungry. For that reason, instead of letting another take
after your child while you’re sleeping, focus on your baby and ask other people
to do the housework, washing, cooking and run errands. They’ll be glad to help.
Focus on your
baby, the other will be glad helping you with other work around the house.
Make time for yourself
On first days, you’ll be busy meeting your baby’s needs.
However, don’t skip in your needs. Spend time in a hot tub. Let your body heal,
especially if you had a Cesarean. Putting pressure on yourself and making
yourself to work more than necessary will make you worried and unhappy.
Make a list of phone numbers
Make a list of phone numbers of people you may want to call
so that if you’re in panic or need help, you don’t need to search for phone
numbers and increase your stress. You can also, fortunately, have someone who
are willing to listen to you, let you pour your heart on and comfort you. The
person can be your mother, friends or close neighbors who always presents to
calm your nerves and say that you’re doing the right thing.
The baby is very fragile
At 6 weeks old,
your baby only has a little strength in the neck.
In the 6 first weeks, your baby will learn to lift his head,
but you have to do it for him throughout this time. His neck nerves are not
strong or developed enough to hold his head. Always hold his head with your
hand when you carry him with your arm, bath him or do anything that could make
his head need support. Even at 6 weeks old, your baby only has a little
strength in the neck. The process is slow, but sure.
