Kanye
West has just announced that his new footwear collaboration with Adidas will be
released in June this year. The hotly anticipated collection comes just months
after the rapper cut ties with his previous collaborators and brand rival,
Nike. Speaking at a press conference in Germany, Kanye unveiled that the new
trainers will be named 'YEEZis'. He thanked the company for allowing him the
opportunity to create instead of just using his celebrity name to benefit their
company. He says they have approached design in a fresh way and allowed him to
take complete creative control: "To get to the point to be able to
make your own shoe, and have people react to it, was such an amazing feeling
that I can never let go. When I create and when we create, it's not based off
the idea of celebrity advertising. With this opportunity to create, I feel
like I can be myself. This was the company that was experienced and brave
enough to give me the opportunity to create."
The
rapper confirmed that the new shoes will hit stores in June this year. He adds
that his creativity is very important to him and he isn't concerned what people
think as a result because it's just the way he lives: "Creativity is
my oxygen, I have to create. And I don't care how crazy I look to anyone; as
long as I can make the best product for all of you. So in June, we'll see the
new YEEZis."
