Miuccia
Prada has opened up on showing some of her fashion collections with both a
female and male cast - something which isn't often done in the industry. The
designer believes that mixing sexes is simply more modern because she doesn't
think there should be a divide between genders in any way. She explained:
"It is more today. Otherwise it looks like we are in classes, in the time
of my grandfather, women divided from men. The shows divided are so unreal and
I think that it is when you put them together you get a sense of what is
meaningful and real..."
Opening
up on her design inspiration, Miuccia comments that most of her inspiration
comes from women because she is able to create female-based fantasies easily
and doesn't think it suits mens clothes as much. However, she tries to look
past gender when designing: "My best inspiration comes because as a woman
I think like a woman. I tend to introduce my fantasies more when I do women
than when I do men because I don't like men when they are too much. So the
problem is how to put a limit on your inspiration? Basically I think to people,
not to gender."
Miuccia
still puts on a womenswear only show biannually as part of Milan Fashion Week
but says that may also change in the future: "Maybe next season I will
change, but at the moment it is two or three seasons where I feel like it's
good when you do something that is meaningful to people."
