5. Instant tan (With a golden glow)
We tried :
Xen-Tan Sunless Tan with 24k Gold Leaf, $40
What’s the claim? A hydrating, instant
bronzer containing 24k gold. It also acts as a self-tan deodorant.
Inge’s verdict: “If you’re having a Staycation this summer, or need to banish your
pale winter limbs in time for a beach holiday, instant tan is the fail-safe
go-to for achieving a natural, golden glow. But does a tan containing actual
gold leaf offer anything extra? I was keen to find out. The very dark brown
colour of the tan rubbed in surprisingly sheer so much so that the hardcore tan
fan might use it simply to enhance their regular tan of choice. The glistening gold
particles gave my skin a subtle shimmer without making me look like a disco
ball, and the smell (designed to block the whiff of any self-tan used
underneath clever) was a refreshing mix of cucumber and melon. A big thumb-up
from me after all, every day’s a good day when you’re smothering yourself in
gold!”
6. Protect hair (without the oil slick)
We tried:
Paul Mitchell Sun Shield Conditioning Sprays, $20
What’s the claim? A must have poolside
compassion that not only protects the hair from UV exposure but adds a vibrant
shine too.
Inge’s verdict: “With 90% of visible changes attributed to ageing caused by the
sun, UV-protectant sprays and gels for your hair are a great idea. The only
problem is that they all contain oils, so invariably leave your hair looking a
bit greasy. Although this one contains conditioning oils, it didn’t sit as
heavily on the hair as others I’ve tried, and the gorgeous tropical scent just
made me want to apply more and more as the day went on! I also turned the
slightly oily finish it gave my hair into a virtue by creating a slick summer
look: gather your hair into a low side pony and secure with a band, then simply
nab a few exotic flowers and pin them behind your ear!”
