If your children have health issue,
you might want to consider about feeding them with yogurt.
Children
who can’t tolerate lactose shouldn’t eat yogurt.
Yogurt is used as a daily healthy treat for
kids, but it’s not as good as you think. There’re many dark sides of yogurt,
which you should know.
Yogurt is a very rich source of protein and
probiotic, a delicious food and suitable to all ages. But, if you have children
who have health issue, you should consider about letting them eat yogurt.
Growth hormones
Some yogurt labels have changed to the
non-hormone milk products but, there’re many producers who still keep the old
track which is using milk from the cow given hormone injections to increase
milk.
These amounts of hormone will remain at
children’s body. It’ll stimulate the pubertal process and increase the risk of
cancer.
Sugar
Overusing yogurt will lead to an
unnecessary amount of sugar in children. According to The American Heart
Association, children from the age of 4 to 8 only need about 3 teaspoons of
sugar equivalent to 12.5gr a day, and for teenager, it should be no more than
the amount of 5-8 spoons of sugar which is equivalent to 25-40g a day.
Meanwhile, a common jar of yogurt contains
26g sugar. Therefore, you should try to choose low-sugar products for babies.
If
your children have health issue, you might want to consider about feeding them
with yogurt.
Lactose
Yogurt which has lactose sugar – a kind of
protein that is hard digested – need to be removed from the regimen of kids
that can’t tolerate lactose. If your children have symptom like stomachache,
flatulence, nausea, cramps or diarrhea, it’s up to 99% that they might have eaten
this food.
For many children that can’t tolerate
lactose, a few small spoons of yogurt won’t be a problem, but others can find
it uncomfortable right in the very first spoon. You can replace normal yogurt
with yogurt that is made of goat’s milk or soy milk, so that your kids can eat
yogurt and be safe at the same time.
Soy
yogurt is a good replacement.
Fat
Some yogurt kinds are the reason causing
obesity in children. They potentially lead to other diseases such as diabetes,
heart diseases, sleep disorders, and depression.
The only solution for this problem is that
you have to choose the right products for your children. A jar of non-fat
yogurt which contains 15-20 calories in its 28gr is a wonderful choice.
Other bad sides of yogurt
Children have to completely stay away from
yogurt if they’re allergic to it. Milk allergy is very dangerous; it can cause
shortness of breath, rash, vomiting… In the worse situation, it can lead the
death. However, whoever has milk allergy will get rid of it by the time they’re
3 years old.
Moreover, because the level of probiotics
in yogurt is quite high, it’s also the reason of flatulence in children. For
kids that have unstable digestive system, yogurt is an efficient treatment. If
kids have the regular flatulence, moms should limit their daily probiotics
absorption.
