Crying is the main tool to help the baby communicate with
others. Newborn babies have many types of crying to express what they need. He
may need a diaper change, need to sleep or be hungry. Though everything seems
to be a scream to a mother having insomnia, listen carefully to the different
shades in the cries will help the mother interpret the meanings of it. Respond
quickly to the cry of the babies, as the longer they cry, the harder their
cries get to decipher.

Instruction
·
Know 3 basic types of crying. They’re: “basic” cry, “pain” cry
and “anger” cry. Hungry stimulate basic cry. Anger cry sounds like basic cry,
but it happens suddenly. Much more air is forced to get through the vocal cords
so it’s louder. Pain cry sounds brassier and louder as the baby hold his breath
between the cries.
·
Listen to the sound: basic cry seems to have rhythm and it
repeats. It will increase over time. Anger cry is louder. The baby will hold
his breath after a pain cry.
·
Look for visible signs. Hunger cry includes the baby looking for
the nipple and suck his own finger. Tired cry may include yawning. If pain cry
is caused by injury or sickness, examine or check his body temperature.
·
Compare the sound of the cries with the reason for crying. Watch
through a check list and cross off the possibilities: hunger, wet diaper,
external wound, over stimulation and fatigue.

·
Meet the demand of being recognized. If the baby is over
stimulated, take the baby to a quiet place. If his diaper is wet, change it. if
he’s hungry, feed him.
·
Act. Sometimes, the cry of the baby is not originated from a
cause that can easily be recognized. If the baby is discouraged or lonely, the
cry will stop when someone carries the baby in her arms. Take him for a walk or
sing a song to him. If a cry seems to be unusual and tired but you can find a
reason for that, it may be a sign that the baby is not healthy.
