Givenchy's
head designer Riccardo Tisci has opened up on designing Beyonce a special stage
costume for her 'On The Run' tour which will also feature her husband Jay Z.
The singer shared a promo video with Tisci in order to explain the idea behind
the tour and he was instantly inspired to start designing. He commented that he
thought the process was incredibly "exciting" and he felt as though
he was assisting a friend to get ready for a big party. Tisci explained:
"I saw that video and was like, 'Wow'. we started talking about hat she
might wear. I said straight away, 'OK, it should all be black, American, sexy
but luxe, couture...' It was exciting, from the gut, like when you're helping a
friend getting ready for a party."
The
designer admits that his first meeting with Beyonce took him by surprise
because although she is a very powerful woman, he also felt she was a gentle
and relaxed beauty: "When I met her, she wasn't how I expected her to be.
She's very powerful and one of the great icons of our time, but also so sweet,
so feminine, very gentle and never vulgar."
Riccardo
also got to meet Beyonce's rapper husband Jay Z, who dropped in to check out
how the fitting was going for the new costume. He reveals that Beyonce always
had a very strong opinion on the design and knew what she wanted: "He came
and said hello to me during fittings and seemed very happy with everything, but
I mean, she knows what she wants, she has a pretty strong point of view."
