Outspoken
British fashion journalist Suzy Menkes has surprised by announcing her
departure from her long term position as Style Editor at the
The International New York Times. She has now instead been named as the
new International editor of Vogue magazine and will report for many of the
international Vogue publications in multiple countries, a complete 19 in total
and thus reaching an expansive market with her new work. The London-based
journalist is glad she will be able to remain in the British city while working
for Conde Nast and comments that the switch is positive for
her: "change is good, it's what fashion is all about."
Meanwhile,
Vogue UK editor Alexandra Shulman has stated that she is a great addition to
the Vogue team because of her extensive experience and she's also a person she
has personally admired: “her experience is invaluable and I have always
admired her."
Thanking
her previous employers who she spent a total of 25 years working for, Menkes
stated that she has been grateful for the endless support she has received and
she's also thankful for always being able to speak her mind freely while in the
role. She believes it's now her time to move on to something new and
challenging: "I am grateful to have spent 25 years at
the International Herald Tribune — a newspaper where I had
unstinting support in being able to express myself freely and honestly. I feel
this is the perfect time to embrace a new challenge in the digital age."
