British
singer-turned-designer Victoria Beckham has opened up on her design process.
She reveals that when she's designing for her namesake label she creates with
herself in mind, creating what she would be interested in wearing personally.
She says that at the beginning, structured dresses were her focus point and
they've come to be a big part of what her label is about now, but she is also
interested in experimenting and trying new silhouettes and garments: ''I
started with dresses that were very structured because that's what I wanted to
wear. The Victoria Beckham woman, that's me. These days, of course, my wardrobe
is filled with suits, shirts, skirts, fantastic trousers I'm proud of...I also
want things that are more relaxed, that you can mix up. As the collections go
on, I try to experiment, to reinforce my point of view, to deliver a
strong fashion message to the world.''
Victoria
says that she likes to keep designs streamlined but also with attention to
detail. Her focus is often on the body as she hopes to make women feel amazing
and believes her designs boost confidence: ''My fashion is very
deceptive in because, underneath simple and effortless exteriors, it presents
lots of details, especially my spring/summer collection which was very
centred on design. Women look to my brand for structured dresses, and I
want to give them what they aspire to each season. It's crucial for me to give
women confidence, that they feel better and stronger in my clothes. The people
I meet tell me my dresses do that for them.''
