American
model Dree Hemingway has collaborated with designer Cole Haan for a new
collection of Autumn/Winter 2014 designs. The model also stars in the new
campaign for the collection which was captured by photographer Glen Luchford
and sees her riding a horse across a picturesque field in Idaho. She explained
why she chose that setting to show off her newly designed items, commenting
that she thinks it represents the mood of her pieces: “I wanted the images to
be more about the essence of what Cole Haan is. I think we’re moved to dress a
certain way because of the mood of the images we see, not just because of the
pieces or products that are featured, and I wanted to give people that
inspiration. It’s a little 1950s-meets-modern, and there’s a hint of Katharine
Hepburn’s masculine take on femininity. That’s my style.”
She
jokes that the idea to ride a horse in the images was completely spontaneous at
the time: “I was just walking around with the horses and I thought, I’ll just
bareback it. Why not?” Speaking on her vision for the collection, Dree said she
didn't want her clothing to be too trend influenced because she prefers
timeless items that can be worn over and over again, and on a daily basis: “I
want to make something that people can throw on every day and that they’ll wear
and keep for life. I don’t want to do trendy pieces. I want to design something
that you’re going to want to pass down."
