The weather this year has been anything but
normal. As I write, the sun is only just starting to make an appearance, so
I’ve been scouring my desk for bronzing products to fake a glow instead. After
buffing on powder bronzers and smudging on skin tints I’ve found that, when it
comes to faking a faux face glow (or extending it), facial tanners are the best
bet. Why? They’re easy to apply, contain complexion-enhancing ingredients and
the non-glittery finish means you’ll get an effect that’s ‘real’ – like your
own skin, albeit a healthier, glowing version. Here are my favourites.
St. Tropez Naturals Radiance Self Tan for Face, $34.5
‘With a super-silky cream formulation that
sinks into the skin, hydrating ingredients and naturally derived tanning agents
that won’t irritate, this self-tan was pretty much made for me. The effect is
subtle but noticeable and, true to St. Tropez from, the end result looks
completely natural – as much as I tried to spot a streak, patchy bit or orange
hue – I couldn’t. And best of all, it smells good. Love.’
Clarins Instant Smooth Self Tanning, $26.5
‘Don’t be put off by its thick, brown
texture. The rich cream texture. The rich cream blended in well and not only
did the tint give my skin an instant natural glow, the self-tan smell soon
faded.’
Makebelieve Night Time Facial Self Moisturiser, $37.5
‘The anti-ageing ingredients like CoQ10
and a blend of rainforest oils make this cream feel really luxurious. It gives
a subtle hue so it’s probably best suited to paler skin tones.’
Ultimo UTan Deluxe Gradual Facial Tan, $33
‘The rich texture is perfect for drier
skin types and the results lasted for two days. The floral scent didn’t develop
into that biscuit-y smell and my skin looked glowing.’
Xen-Tan Face Tanner Luxe, $30
‘With vit E and antioxidants, this was
nicely moisturizing. It has a self-tan scent, but I was pleased with the result
– I looked naturally bronzed for a few days.’
3 Easy Cheats Dewy Skin
1. The secret is moisture and lots of it. Make sure your skin is well
hydrated and add to it during the day with a moisturizing spritz, such as Liz
Earle’s Instant Boost Skin Tonic, $18.9 is a must-have if you’re lacking
lustre.
2. At the Missoni show,make-up artists created ‘sexy, flamenco skin,’
by pressing primer into the high points of the face with their hands. Estée
Lauder Illuminating Perfecting Primer, $32.5, is an industry favourite.
