The right products, proper application and a
little dedication mean you can conjure up a more youthful and vibrant version
of you with the contents of your make-up bag, promises beauty director Suzanne
Duckett.
Pick orange for an instant boost
Uplifting orange radiates warmth and
happiness. “A touch of terracotta or apricot around the eyes and dusted over
cheekbones is a wonderfully soft summer update for all skin tones, from the
palest to the darkest,” says make-up artist Carol Brown. “It’s a real wake-up
call, making tired eyes and a jaded complexion look healthy and alive.”
Pick
orange for an instant boost
Nervous about wearing too much orange? “You
can keep your basic make-up and simply add a pop of peach to the cheeks,’ says
Carol. “People won’t quite know what it is about you that seems better, but
they’ll comment on how well you look”. We’re obsessed with Chantacaille Cheek
Crème in Demure, $44 (020 8740 2085; spacenk.co.uk), and The Body Shop Lily
Cole Lip & Cheek Dome in Crazy for Coral, $15, for instant fresh color and
a flush of youth.
Regain
your glow with the right products and a little know-how
GH
tip
Always try a product where you are actually
going to wear it – face, cheeks or lips – and go outside into daylight to see
what it really looks like.
A
lift for lids
Apply a neutral base color to even out
eyelids, and don’t use orange right next to the lash line or eyes can look
sore. Carol chose Givenchy 6 Matte Gold Eclat Matissime, $48 (01932 233824).
Sunny
cheeks
Apply soft coral or a warm bronzing powder
across cheeks: “It gives a just-been-on-holiday effect.” Carol used [1] Clarins
Bronzing Duo on 03 Dark, $37. We also like Sensai Designing Duo Bronzing powder
(on first page) $52, Selfridges (0800 123400; selfridges.co.uk)
Plumper
lips
“A tan-colored gloss that still lets the
warmth of your own lip color show through gives a modern, plumping look.” Carol
used Ellis Faas lip gloss L305, $33 (020 7734 1234; liberty.co.uk), which comes
in three finishes – matte, cream and gloss.
Youthful
hands
“This is the best orange polish of the
year,” says Carol of [2] Chanel le Vernis polish in Holiday, $27. “It’s not too
yellow, so it doesn’t make skin look redder, and flatters more mature hands.”
We also like Nails Inc polish in Chelsea Flower Show, $17 (020 7529 2340;
nailsinc.com).
Open your eyes to aubergine and plum
Cultivate a passion for berry shades.
“Purple is a great alternative to neutral browns and greys,” says Carol. “It’s
much more fun and upbeat, and will give your eye make-up an instant seasonal
update.” For this look, Carol applied a rich purple shadow along the lid near
the lashes for a flash a easy-to-wear color.

Exotic
eyes
Burgundy and berry shades will enhance skin
with a bit of summer color. We love [3] Nars Duo Eyeshadow in Marie-Galante $36
(0800 123 4000; narscosmetics.co.uk).
Get
clever with color – use plum to bring out a tan
Luscious
lashes
Another quick and simple way to add color
around the eyes is with mascara in a subtle shade. Experiment with plum mascara
– one of our favorites as it’s easy on the eye. “Think of it as a warm brown
that will help bring out the color of your eyes, from pale blue to the darkest
brown,” says Carol. She used [4] Estee Lauder Sumptuous Two Tone Eye Opening
Mascara in Rich Plum, $37, on top and bottom lashes.
