Cutout Maxi
By Ruhi Sheikh, content strategist at www.republicofchic.in
You will need
A jersey maxi, screws, bolts, washers,
fabriccutting scissors, tailor’s
chalk, eyelet punch tool
How to
- Use the tailor’s
chalk to make a straight line a
few inches below the bust. Mark matching
points above and below the drawn line; cut along the line.
- Take the eyelet
punch tool and make holes on the
marked points on the front and
back of both the separated pieces.
- Place a washer on
each hole, slip the screw
through and take it out on the corresponding
hole on the lower half of the dress.
Put in another washer and secure it with a bolt. Continue till top and lower half are completely attached in a full circle. With the noir goth trend looming over us this A/W,
you have the perfect reason to break in this tough-as-nails dress.

Dupatta Gilet
By Nachiket Barve, fashion designer
You will need
A georgette dupatta, fabric-cutting scissors, tailor’s chalk, measuring tape, tacking pins, ribbon finishing trim, sewing needle, thread
How to
- Use the chalk to
mark the centre of the dupatta.
From the woven end, mark 10”
down. On either side of the centre line, mark 8”. At the point where the 8” mark
and 10” mark meet, draw an 8” line.
- Shape an oval keeping the 8” line in the centre to
use as the armhole. Fold on the
line and tack both the layers with pins to hold in place. Cut along the oval line; follow the same for the other armhole.
- Place the ribbon
finishing trim along the newly
cut armhole and stitch to form a
piped edge. Use it as a coloured
layer.
