Marc
Jacobs has revealed that he intends to rename his diffusion 'Marc by Marc
Jacobs' line and will shortly unveil the new title at the show's Autumn/Winter
2014 presentation at New York Fashion Week. The changing of name comes as the
line debuts its first collection under new creative duo Katie Hillier and
Luella Bartley who are now responsible for the designs. Speaking on his big
decision, Jacobs has commented that he has really never been a fan of the
name: "I've always hated that name. I have an idea of what it should
be, which I presented to everyone, but I can't really say it yet. I'm very
superstitious that way. I always believe that if I say something before it's
done it won't really happen."
Speaking
on the design revamp the Marc by Marc Jacobs collection has gone through,
Jacobs says that he believes Hillier and Bartley will bring the fun back to
label: "It's about being playful again, even a little boyish, and
having lots of disparate influences, I think that's the charm of the Marc girl.
She doesn't buy a head-to-toe designer look, so we can't design in that
way."
This
isn't the only big change Jacobs has lined up, he is also attempting to give
his own Marc Jacobs line a makeover with a new logo and a fresh identity which
he feels it has lost over the years: "It got very polluted and
diluted and lost its identity, and I think that's the same with the shoes. Not
to blame anybody, but things slipped, and the only one who can change that is
me."
