British
designer Giles Deacon has designed two new tote bags in aid of Sport Relief
which will go on sale exclusively at Sainsbury's. The two totes are both
covered in colourful prints and are limited edition items, going on sale from
the 14th of February 2014. Retailing at just £6 each, approximately £1.50 will
be donated to Sport Relief. Commenting on designing the bags, Giles said that
he is very happy to help raise money for the effort: "Sport
Relief supports causes dear to my heart and I feel honoured to be involved
in this project alongside Sainsbury’s to help raise money for vulnerable
people in the UK and around the world."
James
Brown, Head of Clothing at Sainsbury’s opened up on the charitable
collaboration and spoke on working with the designer: “We are delighted to have
joined forces with Giles Deacon to create this range of stylish bags to
support Sport Relief. This year Sainsbury’s is extremely proud to have
been a partner of Sport Relief since 2006."
Speaking
about the imaginative prints seen splashed all over both new creations, Giles
revealed that he was inspired by his everyday life: "The
illustrations are based on drawings I’d been doing of people I see in airports,
in Claridge's or in meetings – characters from all over. I wanted
something that would be very bold and recognisable as Giles, and that
incorporated my love of graphics and the ‘Deacon’ colours. I also wanted the
bag to be more than a shopper, I wanted it to be something that you could put
your gym kit in or use as an overnight bag with a zip on top."
