Hoping
to create a customized and "immersive" catwalk experience for
viewers, Marc Jacobs teamed up with Beats by Dre who provided those in the
audience at his 'Marc by Marc Jacobs' Spring/Summer 2015 show with a set of
headphones to experience the special sounds created for the show by Pulp
bassist Steve Mackey. Marc explained that he wanted his new collection to be
viewed like an art installation and he felt that enhancing the sounds would
give that impression. He explained the idea: ''We wanted to create an immersive
experience for this collection, like an art installation - to add another
dimension to a more traditional soundtrack. We worked closely with the team at
Beats by Dre to develop an enhanced audio experience. The idea was to mix the
instrumental track that sounds familiar yet modern, with a narrative overlay to
play with the audience's perception and make for a more personal experience.''
British
editor and stylist Katie Grand, who often works closely with Jacobs, commented
on the addition of the headphones to the show, explaining that she believes
they added a whole new soundscape to the designs. She reveals that they had
begun working on the concept since the previous season and she believes Beats
by Dre helped them realize the vision they wanted to create: ''Last season we
started experimenting sonically to add a new dimension to Marc's show - to
create a soundscape. We wanted to build on that and take it a step further;
this is where Beats by Dre came in.''
