Mindy
Kaling has responded to her new controversial Elle cover. The actress appears
on one of four new cover shots for Elle's special 'Women in Television' issue
which also stars Allison Williams from 'Girls' , 'Parks and Recreation'
funny woman Amy Poehler and 'New Girl' actress Zooey Deschanel. When the
four covers were recently unveiled, many didn't understand why Mindy's cover
was the only one that was closely cropped - people believe her size is being
covered up - and also, why it is the only black & white of all four covers
- was this a racist move?
Elle
has since responded to the controversy, stating that they think she looks
amazing on the cover shot, although they don't directly deny that they tried to
crop her closely due to her weight or opted for black & white because of
her race. They simply stated: "Mindy looks sexy, beautiful and chic.
We think it is a striking and sophisticated cover and are thrilled to celebrate
her in our Women in TV Issue."
Mindy
is taking the whole controversy in her stride, making several jokes via her
twitter account about the issue. She wrote: "Wishing for more skin
on my @ELLEmagazine cover? Chris Messina & I are naked on a brand new
#themindyproject tonight, ya pervs! 930/830 FOX. I love my @ELLEmagazine
cover. It made me feel glamorous & cool. And if anyone wants to see more of
my body, go on thirteen dates with me. (sic)"
This
isn't the first time Elle have come under fire for their covers - they were
also recently accused of covering up actress Melissa McCarthy and not showing
her body fully due to her weight.
