Experimental
and avant gardé, Award-winning British fashion designer Hussein Chalayan has
challenged the fashion design world ever since founding his own namesake label
and introducing the world to his graduate
collection in 1993 named "The Tangent Flows". He has
continued transforming what is possible within the realm of fashion and
adding an element of architecture that is amazingly blended in to functional,
wearable pieces.
Chalayan
has just landed a new role at historical French fashion house Vionnet. The
designer has created a demi-couture line which will be presented in Paris at
Couture Week later this month. Speaking on enlisting Chalayan for the design
project, Vionnet chairwoman and creative director Goga Ashkenazi commented
that she is very happy to see the designer working for the label because she
has always been impressed with his work and his approach to design. She adds
that he is "super-talented" and she admires his artistic nature: "I'm
extremely happy about this collaboration because I think that Hussein is a
super-talented, forward-thinking designer. He is a true artist, very
conceptual; he thinks out of the box and has a strong architectural approach.
He represents what Madeleine Vionnet represented in her era."
Commenting
on taking on the new role, Chalayan stated that he was excited to work
alongside Ashkenazi and bring something new to the historical brand name that
is already renowned for its long history: "The combined elements of
Goga Ashkenazi's creative energy and entrepreneurial approach together with the
unparalleled heritage of the house makes this an exciting collaboration for
me."
