Challenging
themselves with a unique design project, 48 designers have each put their own
spin on a simple football helmet. The CFDA has helped enlist the labels while
working with Bloomingdale's and collaborating with NFL to create special
designs to celebrate Super Sunday in the lead up to the Super Bowl.
Steven
Kolb who is CFDA's CEO commented that to celebrate the Super Bowl's location
this year, the organization wanted to do something special to mark the
occasion: “This is the first time that the Super Bowl will be held in the
New York region and we couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate by joining
Bloomingdale’s and the NFL in merging fashion and sports with the creation of
these unique helmets.”
NFL's
vice president Natara Holloway added that they're thrilled to work with
the CFDA on the designs: "We are excited to team up with
Bloomingdale's and the CFDA to auction off designer Super Bowl XLVIII helmets
to support the work of the NFL Foundation. This unique collaboration is another
way for fans of football and fashion to get closer to the game and be a part of
the Super Bowl XLVIII festivities happening all across the New York-New Jersey
region."
Each
helmet is for sale starting at an initial price of $248, beginning from
January 15th when Bloomingdale's will begin to auction each design off, hoping
to raise proceeds for the NFL Foundation who will receive 100% of all money
raised. Designers included in the collaboration include Diane Von Furstenberg,
Rag & Bone, Betsey Johnson, Marchesa, Dannijo and many more.
