Because of not adding sugar in baby’s diet,
honey seems ideal sweet ingredient for baby’s dishes. Although honey is a
natural food which has many benefits for health, you also should avoid using it

Honey
is dangerous for babies under 1 year old.
Honey contains spores of a bacterium called
clostridium botulinum. It creates toxicants in baby’s’ intestine that can lead
to honey poisoning a serious form of food poisoning.
Besides pure honey, you should avoid using
honey to steam with kumquat and white rose as natural remedy in order to treat
cough and sputum for children. Furthermore, do not let babies use foods tasting
honey flavor such as pudding, yogurt, or cake containing honey.
Things should be done when babies eat honey in accident
If your babies accidentally eat honey, do
not be too worried. Honey poisoning in children is very rare. But you should
pay attention to some signs including constipation, fatigue, decrease of
appetite, shortness of breath. If they have honey poisoning, you need to take
them to hospital to treat immediately.

Make sweet flavor for feeding dish without honey
Together with honey, feeding foods of
children should never add much sugar. Sweet foods will increase the risk of
tooth decay (baby’s teeth can be decayed) and picky eating because they like
only foods tasting sweet.
However, it does not mean that you need to
avoid all sweet foods from babies. You can create sweet by blending mixture of
fruits, then adding breast milk (formula milk) or yogurt; or pounding bananas,
strawberries with yogurt.

Train children to eat honey safely
When children are over one year old, you
can practice them to eat honey. In this period, their intestine has been
mature, and has sufficient ability to deal with dangerous bacteria in honey.
However, honey can be mixed with sugar by producers; dieticians suggest you
should limit honey provided for your babies.
