To-die-for food

“I tell brides to only use recommended caterers the wedding breakfast isn’t a meal you gamble on. However, when one party needed kosher food for the bride’s family, she insisted on using a separate caterer for their food.

“The first warning sign was during the speeches when I noticed a lot of the kosher-eating bridal party skulking off to the toilets. When they returned looking grey, I realized she hadn’t taken my advice regarding catering.

“As the bride and groom took to the floor for the first dance, I ferried her relatives into an ambulance, where they were carted off to hospital with severe food poisoning. The bride came out to wave her family goodbye as they left to get treatment, and then she rejoined the others to carry on celebrations.”

The blushing bride

“Most brides love being the centre of attention on their big day but, for some, the thought of being stared at for 12 hours is a little daunting. I had one bride who threatened to call the whole thing off with just minutes to go. I nervously tried to reapply her makeup as tears rolled down her face but, after convincing her continue with the ceremony, she refused to take part in the rest of the wedding and, despite laying on a lavish reception, she hid away in a room upstairs.”

If you thought those were bad…

Crash and dash

In February this year, a groom from Sydney, Australia, showed why you should never organize your transport to your own wedding. Having rented a white Lamborghini Gallardo (worth an eye- watering $187,500) to travel to the church in style, the overzealous groom lost control of the powerful Italian supercar and drove it off the side of the road into a cluster of trees. Uninjured, the groom reported the accident and legged it to the ceremony on foot. In the end, he did make it to the church on time… but without his $14,250 deposit.

Not-so-white wedding

A wedding reception in Greenock, Renfrewshire, ended in chaos last year after an irate bride punched her kilt-wearing, underwear-free hubby in the face for perching on her knee and leaving behind (there’s no nice way of saying this) a skid mark on her white dress. Sarah Grant and Angus McClure’s celebrations descended into a massive brawl. The police were called and a total of seven people were arrested.

Horse-drawn carnage

In 2008, excited bride Sophie Clarke and her father were on their way to her wedding ceremony in a lavish horse-drawn carriage when the horse got spooked and bolted, throwing the driver onto the road. As the carriage careered down the street towards a railway crossing, the father of the bride pushed his daughter from the carriage and threw himself out after her. Her fiancé was summoned from the church to the roadside, where Sophie lay surrounded by paramedics who ordered her not to move.

The ceremony was cancelled, but the lucky bride escaped with just concussion and whiplash. Police believe Sophie’s life was saved by her $3,000 wedding dress, which cushioned her fall. The couple finally wed six weeks later. Sophie arrived by car…

Trouble and strife

Back in 2003, Connecticut bride Adrienne Samen was at the centre of her wedding disaster when she hit the bar a little too hard at the reception. After yelling obscenities at the guests, Adrienne became enraged with her groom for trying to calm her down, and began throwing vases, flower arrangements and slabs of wedding cake at him.

A witness told police she then “flipped out” when staff decided to close the bar for the night. When police showed up shortly afterwards, Adrienne tried to bite one officer, and then kicked the window of a cop car. She was charged with breach of peace and criminal mischief, fined $135 and got a police mugshot to add to her wedding album.
