Need to wind down? Use our tips to give yourself a well-deserved break

1.    Switch off

‘Give yourself permission to completely r switch off in your downtime,’ says Gina. That means shutting off your electronic devices - put the Blackberry on silent and step away from your iPad.

2.    Make a mojo list

‘Write down all the activities that make you feel good and revived,’ suggests Donna. ‘Then display it somewhere you’ll see it every day.’ Commit to doing one item from the list each day.

3.    Learn to delegate

Whether it’s at home or work, ask others to help you out with the task you need to do.

4.    Mix it up

Do a variety of activities in your downtime. Weekends can seem like a proper holiday if you make an effort to try new things. ‘Just lying on the sofa might seem relaxing, but it can make the whole weekend fly by before you know it,’ says Gina.

5.    Adapt your work schedule

Could your working hours be a bit more flexible? Talk to your manager about working from home one day a week or adjusting your nine to five to suit your set-up.

6.    Tune out

Listening to relaxing music while doing deep breathing exercises is a simple way to chillax

7.    Flex it out

‘Yoga or meditation will allow you to switch off and connect with yourself,’ says Anita.

8.    Close your eyes

This simple switch could improve your quality of rest. Don’t believe it? Look at the eyes of someone watching TV - they’re all over the place! Take five or 10 minutes to sit with your eyes closed for a refreshing mind and body boost.

9.    Take a nap

‘Short power naps will recharge you and enhance your energy,’ says Anita. The result? More creativity, improved memory and better productivity. Stick to 20 minutes or less to avoid feeling groggy.

10.  Inspire yourself

‘Look at a picture that reminds you what pressing pause will give you,’ tips / Donna. It might be an amazing holiday or a snap of you with your best mates just make it inspiring.

11.  Learn a new hobby

It could be painting, tennis, acting or knitting. ‘A hobby allows you to unwind, and you may even make new friends,’ says George.

12.  Take charge

‘Remember that time doesn’t control you,’ says Anita. ‘You can control time.’
