Chest pain

It may be due to infection or the chest strained as you have to make every effort during labor. However, it’s also a sign of pulmonary embolism which you can’t ignore. If you have chest pain, shortness of breath and cough, you need to get to the hospital as it’s an emergency.

Calf pain

It may be due to venous thrombosis (or clogged veins). That’s the blood clot at the vein (or blood vessel), and it can be dangerous to your health. In some cases, women have their body temperature increase, swollen and red calf.

Suicidal thought

If you have negative thoughts such as suicide, get to the doctor immediately or have a talk with your relatives to find a way to fix that.

Erratic behavior, insomnia and severe anxiety

After delivery, many women have to deal with the sudden changes in emotion and mind. Negative thought, severe anxiety, loss of awareness… may relate to depression after giving birth.

High fever (above 38ºC)

This may be a sign of infection. At that time, the health of pregnant women gets weaker quickly if they don’t have treatment. The areas that can easily get infection are the uterus or the stitches.

Difficult urination

If you can’t urinate after pregnancy, you may have urine retention. If you’re still in the hospital, you need to call the doctor. If you have gone home, you need to have a check-up immediately.

Less emergency signs that still need early check-up

·         Vaginal discharge having foul odor: it may be due to uterus or vaginal inflammation.

·         Soft abdomen: infection may be a cause of this.

·         Suffer from hemorrhoids.

·         Erratic feeling that doesn’t become better after 10 days: about 2 weeks after pregnancy, if the symptoms such as fatigue, crying for no reason, excitability, not feeling happy for being a mother… haven’t disappeared yet, it’s possible that you’re facing postnatal depression.

·         Perineum (the area between the vagina and the anus) pain, smelly urine, it may be due to infection or infection at the stitches.

·         Fecal incontinence: fecal incontinence happens before the mother can get to the toilet as they can’t control defecation.
